America Needs (A)mending

A small dent in this big world

Our America Needs (A)mending zine was created after attending a League of Women Voters meeting in September 2025. At that meeting, members were discussing the national League's Unite and Rise 8.5 initiative, which aims to engage voters through advocacy, civic education, and community engagement.

We realized that while we kept hearing about how the Constitution was under attack, we didn't know enough about what that actually meant. So we decided to create a zine that would help educate us all: America Needs (A)mending lists out each of the 27 Constitutional amendments (we've included the original text where there is room for it!) and highlights 8 of the amendments that are currently under attack. Those eight amendments (the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 14th, 15th and 19th) each have a corresponding line illustration from a Wisconsin-based artist along with text that explains "how this right is at risk."

We're so proud of this collaborative effort, which has been volunteer-driven and people-powered from day one. As of September 2026, we have raised $7,200 from 81 individual donors, and have printed 6,000 copies of these zines that we're distributing in dozens of locations throughout Door County and NE Wisconsin.

If you'd like to join those who have donated to help us print more copies, you can visit our donation page here: https://givebutter.com/america-needs-amending-jarla2

If you'd like a copy of the zine, please send an email to contact@northerndooractivism.com and we will find a way to get one to you! In the meantime, please keep talking about our Constitutional rights and keep doing what you can to protect them - we'll be right there alongside you. <3
